The Spirit of Greek Hospitality: What it Means at Kaia

It doesn't matter whether you're a stranger or a familiar face; in Greek culture, you are family, and that's what Greek hospitality is all about. Everyone is welcomed with open arms and treated with respect no matter what. In our culture, strangers turn into friends within the blink of an eye!

Xenia: More Than a Concept

Xenia is another word for describing and summarizing Greek Hospitality. It refers to "friend to the stranger" and dates back centuries to ancient Greece. It targets those "far from home and need a place to rest." The concept is surrounded by generosity and the process of inviting us into their home where they can be treated like family. Xenia goes above and beyond and is more than just a smile and a simple hello; it also provides meals and an open home for those in need.

Zeus Xenios

Also known as "the king of gods," Zeus Xenios is arguably the most well-known Greek god of all time and is a huge part of Greek culture and hospitality. It is noted that Zeus and his daughters Athena, Dioscuri, and Pollux would protect all visitors and strangers. In ancient Greece, looking after visitors and strangers was seen as an act of bravery and great honor, and to this day, the Greeks take pride in their hospitality to others.
